Cool Beans! #3 - The Caffeine Issue (1994) Lou Barlow, Dis, Free Kitten y mas...

Woosh Fanzine + Flexi, 1989 - My Bloody Valentine, The Pastels, St.Christopher, Siddeleys, Pooh Sticks

Woosh Fanzine + Flexi, 1989 - My Bloody Valentine, The Pastels, St.Christopher, Siddeleys, Pooh Sticks

It´s nice to see isn´t it, My Bloody Valentine in the position that they are in now. At last the press have taken them to beart and people are buying their records. A twelve date British tour with almost every date sold out.

SJ: So then Kevin, do you feel MBV have finally acheived something?

MBV: Yes, even though it's all a bit of a blurr for us at the moment, because we've been going for so long with so many line up changes. It's difficult to see that last year we weren't very popular and now we are. We'd seemed to have stayed at the same level for ages getting slightly bigger all of the time, than all of a sudden when we joined Creation things started to happen.
The dates we've just done in England were brilliant, really good crowds. The only people we were pissed off with were ourselves. Ve were the only people who let anyone down. Ve're still pretty crappy at what we do. It's far to auch of a struggle to get it right. By the time we've finished this nine week tour we'll have different ideas on how the band should be. Ve'll be tired but we're actually learning things all of the time."
Early last year My Bloody Valentine were labeless and playing small gigs for next to nothing. They'd' told Vayne 'DICKHEAD' Morris where to go with his idea to make them So into a polished pop band. things weren't looking to bright for them.

SJ: How long do you think you could've stopped at that level?

MVB: "For a while I suppose, we would've kept on trying. There's a dumb theory that if you keep on trying it will work in the end. There's bands like The Smiths and The Sundays who form a band and from day one there's a buzz and then there's the others who do it wrong at the beginning, who have to stick at it to make something of themselves, but most split up."

SJ: Talking of Vayne, what's this about him re-issuing ECSTACY' and STRAWBERRY WINE on one LP?

MBV: "The guy's a jerk but there isn't much we can do. We sent solicitors letters but he's still releasing it. All we can do is let people know through the press that it's nothing to do with us, and that it's a rip-off.. He thought that he'd get some credibility for putting out the stuff by showing that he was there first sort of thing. But the thing is everybody knows that he's just cashing in. He's promised us some money this time, but I'm not thinking about the money. I just want to get him back sometime in the future. bide my time until I do, people like him don't last forever. It would be good if he pressed up loads of copies and we found some legal way to get him, so he was stuck with all these records he couldn't sell."

SJ: You been recording recently?

MBV: "Ve recorded four songs which we don't really like that much. They were supposed to be the next single but there wasn't an A side amongst them. They 11 all come out eventually on B sides or something. When we come back from the European tour in April, we'll have to go back into the studio to record again because we really want to get another single out by June."

SJ: Someone mentioned that the new stuff is heading off in another new direction?.

MBV: "We're always doing something slightly different, It's more enjoyable to do something you know is new. It's more inspiring like. that."

SJ: What about 'SUGAR' the catalogue flexi, that's pretty weird?

MBV: "The catalogue just wanted some Creation bands on a flexi and they asked us. It was just done in a cheap studio and we only spent £150 on it. It's all completely weird, we just made it up in the studio because we didn't want to do an album track or acoustic version of a track like other bands. Ve wanted to do something different that we really liked.

SJ: Over the past year MY BLOODY VALENTINE have matured and totally changed their musical style...doing this they've attracted a new audience but also through their honesty and continuation to produce good records they've managed not to lose their original fans. People like myself, who followed them during their indie pop stage have matured with them. One thing I've got to mention is that their old records were brilliant They were the best indie pop band even though they were basically ignored. These records should not be ignored, people shouldn't be saying that it was there horrible indie pop stage. MY BLOODY VALENTINE have always been good and with the attitude they have will always be good!
